Applied Arts
A Four-Year Part-Time Program for Handwork Teachers
Certificate Program
Fifth Cycle Begins June 18th, 2007!The Applied Arts Program offers a professional development opportunity for Waldorf handwork teachers and those individuals aspiring to become teachers. The program explores the art, philosophy, practice and pedagogy of teaching handwork. It is also a forum for sharing the insights and experiences that arise out of teaching. Students and teachers form a learning community that supports the individuals in their artistic development and their spiritual and practical striving. All courses in the arts and crafts are meant not only to develop skills and techniques, but on a deeper level to exercise artistic perception and creativity as capacities essential to teachers and human beings in general.
Course of Study
All sessions take place on the Sunbridge College campus in Spring Valley, New York. Participants meet two weeks in the summer and one week in the winter for four years. Preparatory reading, as well as independent research and projects between on-campus sessions, are considered an integral part of the program. Upon completion of the program, participants receive a Sunbridge College Applied Arts Certificate. A new cycle of this program begins every two years, in odd-numbered years. The next cycle will begin on June 18, 2007.The schedule for each session is full-time Monday-Friday, in four basic curricular areas:
