Presentation
The Auto Body Repair & Painting program prepares the student for employment in the collision repair and refinish industry. Successful graduates have found that training received in the ABRP program leads to better paying jobs, and faster advancement once employed.
Program Requirements
Required Text Books & Student Manuals
The text book, student manual, notebooks and writing instruments must be brought to class daily. The text book and student manual will be used in more than one semester of the program. These items are available for purchase from the UHH Bookstore in the lower level of building 346 on the upper campus. Text books are available for students entering the program for the first time in the fall semester, and may not be available after the bookstore return date.

Required Shop Attire:
For safety reasons and to conform with acceptable industry professional dress standards, students are required to wear durable work clothing. Heavy cotton work or denim long pants must be secured at the waist, with belt ends fixed under belt loops. Short pants, unhemmed cut off legs, baggy and excessively loose pants may present unsafe working conditions and will not be allowed. Cotton work shirts or t-shirt are recommended. Polyester, rayon, nylon, and other manmade textiles should be avoided. Undergarments (briefs, bras, socks etc.) must also be used as a matter of safety as well as hygiene. Clothes will be kept reasonably clean and laundered, with no large holes or frayed edges. Excessively loose clothing, midriff and sleeves cut-offs, low cut necklines, and tank tops are not allowed. No clothing deemed offensive or inappropriate will be allowed. This includes displaying scenes of obscene or vulgar language or gestures, sexist illustrations, drug related symbols. Students not in compliance with shop attire rules will not be allowed to participate and may be dismissed from class.
Required Safety Equipment:
All students are required to purchase and use the personal safety equipment specified by the program.
· Steel toe shoes with socks must be worn at all times in the building. Shoes with soles and leather uppers, must be in good condition and properly laced.
· Safety glasses or goggles must be worn at all times in the shop area. No tinted or dark lenses are allowed. Prescription glasses must have safety lenses or safety goggles or a face shield must be worn over the glasses.
· Hearing protection - ear muffs or ear plugs.
· Welding goggles for gas welding & cutting (shade 4-5)
· Welding helmet for electric arc welding (shade 10-12) - electronic recommended
· Paint respirator with organic vapor cartridges, and pre-filters
· Multi-purpose particulate respirator – (dust, undercoat, welding use)
· Hooded spray suit for painting
· Heavy leather gauntlet style welding gloves
· Light leather work gloves for working with sharp objects
· Full face shield
Required ABRP Tools:
Each student entering the Auto Body Repair and Painting program is required to obtain the tools specified on the ABRP Basic Tools list at the beginning of the first semester of instruction. Students are encouraged to purchase professional quality tools, and should check with the instructors for vendors that offer discounted tool sets to vocational students. All tools must be secured within a lockable toolbox or cabinet, and are required to be brought to class daily. Random tool checks will be made to ensure compliance. Students not possessing the required tools may not be allowed to participate in lab activities, and will not be able to perform required tasks.
As tool set sizes and quantities vary by manufacturer, the tools listed are typically found in boxed sets and are considered the minimum required. Individual
tools may be purchased to fill incomplete sets.
