Presentation

The Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences consist of two major degree programs-psychology and sociology.  Students may obtain a bachelors degree either in psychology or sociology on completing the course requirements for each of these programs. (See college catalogues for the suggested courses for each of the programs).

Psychology:

Psychology is the scientific study of human behavior and mental process.  The growing emphasis on neuroscience and genetics as a means to understand the effect of biology on behavior in the 21st century places this discipline in a strong position in the field of science.  Psychology offers more diversity in the types of employment than most degrees in other fields. An undergraduate degree in psychology at Edward Waters College will prepare students for a graduate level degree in the field that would eventually qualify them as a psychologist or other related professions like counseling, consultants and occupational rehabilitation. A bachelors of arts from this discipline would equip the graduates for various professional work settings like:

Colleges and universities,

Hospitals and health clinics

Rehabilitation facilities

Elementary and secondary schools,

Business, industries and government
