HSDM offers an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program entitled Biological Sciences in Dental Medicine (BSDM). This program was approved by the Harvard University Faculty of Arts and Sciences in 2001, and is the sole Ph.D. program offered by Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
The biological processes underlying dental medicine are diverse. The BSDM programprovides scientific training across academic disciplines including genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular and cell biology, and developmental biology. BSDM graduates are prepared to become leaders and independent investigators in dental and medical schools as well as industry.
The BSDM program faculty are based in the Longwood Medical Area Harvard community and the Harvard Cambridge campus. Applications for admission are accepted from students who have received a bachelor's degree or equivalent training. First-year graduate studies normally begin in September. Matriculated students are guaranteed tuition and stipend support as long as they are making satisfactory progress in the program.
