Commercial Art Curriculum
Educational Objectives
This program is a highly specialized, broadly based field of study designed to train students for entry level positions in the commercial art field.
Employers look for originality, vision and great technical skills in drawing and rendering, as well as the knowledge of computer skills. The students should have the skill and understanding of how to prepare artwork and be able to meet the practical requirements of print reproduction.
This study includes a variety of courses that make a strong curriculum and is designed to teach and train individuals who can plan to be professional commercial artists. Students take courses in advertising, graphic design, illustration, photography, airbrush and computer graphics. Students will learn the proper methods for using a number of techniques that can save a great deal of time and produce artwork within deadlines and learn how they can put their knowledge and skills to use in a commercial art field.
Graduates of the commercial art program are able to seek employment on an entry level in advertising agencies and commercial art firms. They are also qualified to be employed in print shops and sign shops as well as book publishers, record companies, newspapers and photography studios. Some enterprising graduates elect to work as free-lance commercial artists.
The normal duration of Commercial Art Program is six (6) semesters, 24 months. Graduates of this program complete 76 credit hours and earn an Associate Degree of Occupational Studies in Commercial Art.
