  7. A vast amount of information in today's society is transmitted through the printed word. The need has never been greater for dedicated Christians who can produce literature for brochures, magazines, newsletters, and other materials. The communications major with a commercial writing concentration helps the student develop and refine journalistic, advertising, technical, and creative writing skills. Students also grasp the fundamentals of layout and design.

    Students will gain practical insight into commercial writing through various campus publications and other publishing opportunities.

    Writing ability evaluation: During the second semester of the sophomore year, the student must successfully complete CO 299 Sophomore Writing Major Ability Evaluation before being considered approved for a major in communications with a commercial writing concentration.

    Academic requirements: Students must have at least a “C” in all communication and English courses. A minor of 18–26 hours must also be completed. English or journalism may not be claimed as a minor. English and journalism courses are a part of the commercial writing concentration.

    Academic Program Fee: Students majoring in communications with commercial writing concentration pay an Academic Program Fee of $80 per semester or $20 per payment.
