Executive Assistant Program
(CERTIFICATE PROGRAM)
Advanced English Skills for the Contemporary American WorkplaceOBJECTIVE
Zarem Golde ORT Technical Institute’s Executive Assistant Program is an innovative and advanced approach to vocational English skills for the modern workforce. Merging technology and advanced English language skills, this unique program enables any second language learner to continue their acquisition of English proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing, while gaining an intensive orientation to all areas of office procedures including Advanced Vocational English Vocabulary, Interpersonal Communication Registers, Styles and Idiomatic Expressions, Microsoft Office Suite, Technical and Business Writing, Oral Fluency and Development, Pronunciation and Accent, Vocational Protocol and Skills, Business Communication Using Email, Introduction to the Internet, Advanced Vocational English Listening and Speaking Skills, as well as Linguistic Subtleties and Conventions.ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Students must be a high school graduate or the equivalent, obtaining a score that corresponds with the institution’s ESL level 4 and be interviewed by the Admissions Department.PROGRAM LENGTH
This program is taught 4.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, or 18 hours per week. Each module is 48 sessions in length (216 hours). Students are required to attend an Employment Preparation Course or an elective seminar, bringing the program’s length to 29.0 semester credit hours or 648 hours for approximately 36 weeks of instruction.

Introduction to general office and workplace skills is offered through the acquisition of beginning technical and business communication. Emphasis is placed on appropriate technology and its usefulness, an orientation to all areas of office procedures, as well as a focus on the acquisition of advanced vocational English vocabulary, oral fluency and proficiency.OS 335 – Oral and Written Communication Styles for the Workplace
(No Prerequisite, 5.5 Semester Credit Hours)
Students will focus on contemporary business communication methods, using specialized second language learning techniques. Emphasis is placed on choosing appropriate speaking and writing strategies for participating in and supporting different business situations and on the tools available in modern businesses to facilitate these communication styles. Students will understand and utilize a variety of electronic and digital communication methods.OS235 Word Processing Concepts and Communication Strategies
(No Prerequisite, 5.0 Semester Credit Hours)
Students will learn the skills necessary to use word processing software using appropriate second language learning techniques. Special focus will be placed on acquiring improved business and technical writing skills. Oral and listening proficiencies will be improved through an exploration of strategies for verbally presenting information.CS350 – Cultural Studies / Humanities Seminar
(No prerequisite, 1.0 Semester Credit Hours)
The Cultural Studies/Humanities Seminar course is designed to give students a broad understanding and appreciation for many facets of American society. This course will deal with issues essential to understanding and working within this society including respecting the diversity of the American population, and the formation and functioning of the governmental and educational systems.OS 241 Word Processing Applications and Business Communications Practices
(No Prerequisite, 4.0 Semester Credit Hours)
The student acquires proficiency in the operation of word processing software programs on the personal computer, including menus, centering, formatting, editing, printing and replacing text, document handling, toolbar use, searching and replacing, formatting, Word tools, use of tables, charts, and other skills. Students will also learn to navigate the World Wide Web, use search engines and establish e-mail account.EP390 Employment Preparation

In this seminar students are taught how to seek employment including locating sources of employment, writing letters of application, preparing a resume, interviewing for a job and follow-up procedures.CP230 Spreadsheet Applications and Financial Concepts
(No prerequisite, 4.5 Semester Credit Hours)
Introduction to spreadsheet software concepts and use. Students will understand and put into practice the elements of spreadsheet software which facilitate the communication of numeric and financial data in the workplace. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring appropriate vocabulary and integrating these applications with communication strategies for financial-based business situations.CP400 Media and Presentation Solutions for Advanced Communication
(No prerequisite, 4.5 Semester Credit Hours)
Using a progressively advanced level of English, students will focus on integrating various media and technology applications to refine their ability to present and understand information in an office environment. Students will learn to use various graphics, technology, and presentation software to creatively support and enhance their verbal and written communication skills.
