M.S.Ed in Waldorf Education / Certificate Program

Currently accepting applications for Fall 2007. Please contact the Enrollment Coordinator for an application at (845) 425-0055 x24, or by email at enrollment@sunbridge.edu

The education of a prospective Waldorf teacher is dramatically different from that found in conventional teacher-training colleges. Our students not only learn about child psychology, pedagogical methodology, curriculum development and classroom management — they also develop a new self-understanding and the ability to transform themselves through immersion in the arts and the study of spiritual science, or anthroposophy, which includes insights into nature and human and cultural evolution, as well as a variety of inner development approaches and methods. Thus, our graduates set out on a path of self-development that will continue at the core of their work as teachers.

While predominantly a program in Elementary Teacher Education, the program includes a high school component, which enables those interested in high school teaching to work out of Waldorf education as a whole. Besides a block on the high school curriculum, methods and adolescent development, the observation and practicum work is arranged in a high school, and the opportunity exists for individual projects and independent studies on high school topics.

The Full-Time Elementary Teacher Education Program is a one-year program with Master’s degree option. It runs from September through May. The prerequisites for admission into the Full-Time Elementary Teacher Education Program include completion of a Foundation Studies course that meets the Sunbridge requirements. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, a Course Completion Certificate will be issued, and a Master’s Degree in Waldorf Education for those who have completed the requisite coursework. After two years of successful professional experience in a Waldorf school, the Diploma in Waldorf Education is issued on request with a letter of recommendation from the school’s faculty chair.

Master of Science Degree in Waldorf Education

The Master's Degree Program runs concurrently with the Certificate Program and includes two additional courses and an independent project. The program is open to all students with appropriate personal objectives who fulfill the admissions requirements, which include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a B average in the major field and a minimum GPA of 2.7. Submission of Graduate Records Examination scores is not required for admission. When students are admitted to a degree program, all decisions regarding credit transfers are finalized.
