The Communications Department seeks to prepare ethical, socially responsive, talented, and innovative students who can function effectively in career opportunities related to Mass Communications. By providing a balanced curriculum of theory and practice, the department instructs students to create, critical thinking, empowerment, and aesthetic appreciation.

In today’s fast-paced, technologically advanced global community, mass media plays a critical role in our daily lives. Students are taught courses related to various media and their influence on society including the following:

 

  • Students develop theoretical frameworks to understand roles, functions, and effects of mass communication in society.
  • Students employ ethics and laws affecting mass communications effectively along with understanding roles and responsibilities of mass communication in democratic society. 
  • Students recognize the economics of media industries and their effects on society.   
  • Students understand the role of media in generating and disseminating cultural values along with analysis of media contents and messages. 

 

The program is designed for students seeking professions in print journalism, broadcasting, advertising, and public relations, English teaching and writing, publishing, and copyediting.
