Yo San University Master's Program
Learn in an intimate, supportive environment dedicated to academic excellence.
Creating an educational environment where students can satisfy their desire for spiritual and medical knowledge is the essence of Yo San's legacy. Yo San students crave quality instruction and enjoy a lively exchange of ideas with their professors.
The education at Yo San is field based, problem oriented, and guided by the Taoist philosophy of balance and harmony. Classes are small, fostering an intimate, personal learning experience. Our faculty is committed to academic excellence, sets high standards, and is determined to provide you with an education that is at once intellectually stimulating and relevant in today's modern health care environment.
Since the early eighties, when acupuncture schools in the U.S. began to receive formal accreditation, southern California has become an important center for Oriental Medicine. We draw from a large pool of talented teachers and practitioners for our faculty and clinic supervisors.
Yo San has always had a diverse faculty. We have a core of native born and trained Chinese instructors who have studied, taught, and practiced at some of China's top TCM Universities; some come from distinguished families of Chinese practitioners. Equally impressive is our dedicated western trained faculty, some of whom have been with us from day one. Many of our adjunct faculties are skilled practitioners with years of clinical and teaching experience and strong specialties. Our western trained faculties teach TCM theory, Chinese herbology, and Qi development courses as well as western medical sciences and practice management.
Our TCM professors have made names for themselves in specialties such as dermatology, HIV/AIDS, gynecology, diabetes, infertility, and substance abuse. Our two founders, Daoshing Ni and Maoshing Ni, continue to be involved in the school, helping to guide the curriculum, ensuring that the spirit of Taoism remains strong, and teaching courses in Qi development, Taoism, and TCM theory.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the fastest growing healthcare professions in the United States today. As a primary health care modality, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), dates back more than 2,500 years. In California, acupuncturists earned their status as primary health care providers in 1978 just 25 years ago.
Today acupuncture is a licensed medical profession in over 40 states and the District of Columbia. There are some 50 accredited schools of acupuncture, and over 15,000 licensed acupuncturists practicing across the country. The benefits of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture are becoming increasingly known and accepted and acupuncture and TCM are being integrated into mainstream Western healthcare, including the California Workers Compensation system. Many hospitals and medical clinics now employ licensed acupuncturists on staff. The National Institutes of Health are funding TCM research; more and more insurance companies are covering TCM treatment in their health plans.
