New York City Teacher Education
M.S. Ed in Waldorf Education / Certificate Program

The next cycle of study will begin in the summer of 2008.  Applications will be available in the fall of 2007.

Our New York City Part-Time Teacher Education Program is an integrated three-year exploration of how the spiritual and pedagogical insights of Rudolf Steiner can be practically applied to enliven the art of education. Our task as Waldorf educators is to develop in our students the widest possible interest in and love for the world. This program gives potential and practicing teachers the rare opportunity to develop themselves in a fully holistic way—artistically, intellectually, and spiritually. It offers a deepening understanding of the contemporary world and a fresh approach to science and nature, interpersonal communication, and community building.

This three-year part-time program is held on approximately 30 Friday evenings and Saturday mornings during the academic year, from mid-September to mid-May, at the Rudolf Steiner High School at 15 East 78th Street. There is also a three-week summer intensive each year, held partly in New York City and partly at Sunbridge College’s Spring Valley campus. Those in the master’s program have additional classes in the second and third year. The program leads to a certificate or an M.S.Ed. in Waldorf Early Childhood, Elementary, or High School education.  A Diploma in Waldorf Education is awarded after two years of successful teaching in a Waldorf school.

Master of Science Degree in Waldorf Education

Sunbridge’s charter permits us to offer full state and federal recognition for three M.S. Ed. degrees in either Elementary Education (Grades 1 – 8), High School (Grades 9-12), or Early Childhood (Nursery/Kindergarten). Candidates must already have a Bachelor’s degree. The master’s program includes all courses in the New York City part-time program or foundation year pre-requisites completed in another program. A minimum of 32 credits in required Waldorf education courses is necessary. Degree candidates also complete an additional course each year and an independent project, which students have six years from matriculation to complete. Second and third year master’s students have one additional Friday evening and Saturday morning per term, plus two Sunday afternoons during the summer session.
