Presentation
The Behavioral Neuroscience Program at Connecticut College is part of the Department of Psychology, with close ties to the departments of Botany, Biology, Chemistry and Philosophy. The Behavioral Neuroscience major consists of core courses in Psychology, Biological Sciences, and Chemistry. The purpose of the major is to foster an understanding of the neural basis of behavior, which requires some basic understanding of chemistry, psychology, philosophy, molecular biology, and cellular biology.
The interdisciplinary nature of neuroscience allows students to focus on a variety of disciplines within the same major, by choosing recommended courses taught in a variety of departments.
Conducting research is emphasized in the major. Courses often include original research projects and it is common for students to take Individual Study for one or two semesters, with a few students enrolling in Honors Study during the senior year. Many students spend their summer doing internships either at Connecticut College or at outside research institutions.
