Part-Time Early Childhood Education
M.S. Ed in Waldorf Education / Certificate Program
The next cycle of the Part-Time Early Childhood Education Program will not begin until Summer 2008. Please visit our events page for professional development courses, kindergarten open week initensive and a Waldorf in the Home fair all happening Summer 2007.
The Part-Time Early Childhood Teacher Education Program is a professional development opportunity for Waldorf early childhood educators offered over the course of three summers and the two intervening school years, with a three-week session each summer and a five-day intensive course each fall and spring. It offers an integrated program of study designed to provide a philosophical, artistic and practical foundation for Waldorf early childhood teaching. In the summer, fall and spring sessions, students take courses in four curricular areas:
Basic Foundations in Anthroposophy
Waldorf Education and Early Childhood Development
Practical Activities of the Waldorf Kindergarten
The Arts
Students are also assigned study material and independent projects to be completed between sessions. During the course of the program, an assigned mentor will visit the student in his/her classroom once each semester, to offer support and guidance in practical teaching areas and answer questions.
Master of Science Degree in Waldorf Education
The program leads to a non-degree Certificate or a Master’s Degree in Waldorf Early Childhood Education (M.S. Ed.). The Master’s Degree Program is authorized by the Board of Regents of the State of New York. Students taking the program for graduate credit have several additional assignments and must complete an independent project or thesis. Applicants to the Master’s Program must have an undergraduate degree (B.A. or its equivalent), with a B or 3.0 average in the major field of study. Submission of Graduate Records Examinations is not required for admission.
Eligibility
The Part-Time Early Childhood Teacher Education Program is open to practicing Waldorf early childhood educators with a minimum of one year of experience in a Waldorf setting. It is expected that participants in the program will continue to work actively with children throughout the two years of the training. Applicants are expected to be familiar with Waldorf education and anthroposophy through study groups, workshops or seminars. Lead teachers and assistants are admitted to the program.
Students enter the program at the beginning of the summer session and must attend all sessions; partial enrollment is not an option. Enrollment is limited, and applications must be submitted by April 1st. A new program begins every other June, in even-numbered years.
