Part-Time Elementary Teacher Education
M.S. Ed in Waldorf Education / Certificate Program
For Class Teachers, Music Teachers, and Foreign Language Teachers
Applications are currently being accepted for the Part-time Teacher Training Program which runs from July 9th through July 27th, Summer 2007,
Our Part-Time Teacher Education Program is a professional development opportunity for practicing Waldorf educators and those who wish to become Waldorf teachers but are currently unable to participate in a full-time program. It gives a philosophical, artistic, and practical foundation for Waldorf class and subject teaching. It involves an integrated, three-year program of coursework, with classes convening for three weeks each summer, one week each fall, and one week each spring.
The program is unique in that it provides a forum for class teachers and subject teachers (music, foreign language) to interact as they take the same core courses in Waldorf pedagogy, inner development, and many of the arts. This enables them to explore and understand the different yet essential roles class teachers and subject teachers play in the education of children.
Another special aspect of this program is its flexible enrollment schedule. Students are admitted each summer, class size permitting. This encourages sharing among students at different stages of their education.
The Part-time Teacher Education Program leads to a Course Completion Certificate or an M.S.Ed. in Waldorf Elementary Education. A Diploma in Waldorf Education is awarded after two years of successful teaching in a Waldorf school. Applicants who have not completed a Foundation Studies course that meets the Sunbridge requirements, or have limited backgrounds in Waldorf education and anthroposophy need to meet the Sunbridge Foundation Studies Equivalency Requirements before graduation. These requirements may be fulfilled concurrently over the three years of the Part-time Elementary Teacher Education Program.
Master of Science Degree in Waldorf Education
The Master's Degree Program runs concurrently with the Certificate Program and includes two additional courses and an independent project. The additional classes take place on four Sunday afternoons prior to or during the week-long intensives. The program is open to all students with appropriate personal objectives who fulfill the admissions requirements, which include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a B average in the major field and a minimum GPA of 2.7. Submission of Graduate Records Examination scores is not required for admission. When students are admitted to a degree program, all decisions regarding credit transfers are finalized.
