The Radiologic Technology (RT) program prepares students to work as Radiologic Technologists after successfully completing the two-year program.
RTs apply their knowledge of human anatomy, X-ray positioning, X-ray physics, sophisticated equipment, film critique, basic pathophysiology and patient care to successfully administer service to patients.
Radiologic Technologists:
Must be mentally alert and able to function in stressful situations
Must have excellent hand-eye coordination and communication skills
Follow directions and work cooperatively with other health care professionals
Have compassion for the sick and injured
Must be in good physical health and able to move radiographic equipment and patients safely to provide appropriate care to those they serve.
Radiography is also the precursor necessary to consider advancing to specialized and advanced radiology services, such as interventional and special procedures, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine (NM), ultrasonography (US) and radiation therapy. With experience and/or additional education and training, radiographers can advance into other areas such as management, education, and sales.
Career Opportunities
"Employment of Radiologic Technologists is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2010. Opportunities are expected to be favorable. Hospitals will remain the principal employer; however, a greater number of new jobs will be found in offices and clinics of physicians, including diagnostic imaging centers."
